Kelley and Firestein's Textbook of Rheumatology, 2-Volume Set - veylogarge.tk

Firestein et al. Elsevier Saunders, ISBN This book is one of the bibles of rheumatology and a definite must for every rheumatologist or scientist interested in rheumatology.

It should be a standard book for any medical library. The seventh edition has been significantly updated and contains contributions from leading experts in the field. Volume 1 covers several chapters which include structure and function of articular tissues, cellular components and mechanisms involved in autoimmune diseases and inflammation, evaluation of musculoskeletal symptoms, diagnostic tests and procedures and modalities of therapy. The basic science topics are illustrated by several tables and figures to make them as comprehensible as possible.

Treatment of the Rheumatic Diseases: A Companion to Kelley's Textbook of Rheumatology, 2nd Edition

The transition from bench to bedside is made in the second volume, devoted to an in-depth description of the major rheumatic diseases ranging from epidemiology, pathophysiology and clinical presentation to treatment modalities. Although the majority of images in the book are represented in black and white, there is a special section of colour images in Volume 1 devoted to clinical illustrations.

There is some level of overlap between the two volumes, particularly with respect to pathophysiology, and the homogeneity in chapter subdivision could be improved. One particular attractive feature is the inclusion of a DVD-ROM which covers several very didactic topics such as musculoskeletal examination resources and a multimedia gallery of clinical images. It also includes most of the figures presented in the book and even a section on self-assessment questions and arthroscopic procedures.
